Get That Green Eye – On-Site Recycling vs. Landfill Toss

You’re at a construction site and are dumping building materials in a number of dumpsters. After this, all you have to do is haul the materials to a landfill. Simple, right? But is the simple way always right?
According to a survey, 82% of landfills in the US (this survey was conducted on 288 landfills) have leaks, and about 41% have had a leak that covered more than one square foot. Over ten toxic gasses are produced at landfills. However, the most harmful of these gases is methane. As the gas builds up in pressure, it starts to move thru the soil, killing plants, crops and ruining food chains. According to WeGreen-USA, ‘as the number of landfills increases, the likelihood of leaks increases as well.’
Naturally, as population increases, waste increases as well. Therefore it is vital to the environment to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible. Of course these statistics can’t be wiped away to produce a clean slate as much as we would like that to happen. But, we can find alternative ways to reduce these waste hauls to landfills. Simply put – On-Site Recycling. Essentially, it is the process of taking waste materials and separating each material from the other on site so that they can be recycled appropriately. On-Site Recycling is a simple process, but it involves full cooperation from the team.

At Verdeline, we believe in On-Site Recycling. We make sure that every containter is labeled with the specific waste product (i.e. concrete, metal, sheetrock). The reason for this is that clean loads get less of a charge at faculties and allow for more recycling options and lower disposal costs. If we’re saving money, you’re saving money as well! We’re all for the win-win ideas.
